Member Spotlight: Meet Gracie Clark

If you ask Gracie Clark to describe CrossFit 863 in one word, her answer is pretty simple: “Sweaty.” And after a year and a half of CrossFit, we’d say that’s a pretty accurate description.
Gracie first walked through the doors at CrossFit 863 because she wanted to get stronger, challenge herself, and become healthier and more active overall. Like so many people who start CrossFit, she wasn’t looking to already be good at everything. She was looking for a place where she could challenge herself and grow. Over the last year and a half, she’s done exactly that.
When we asked Gracie what accomplishment she’s most proud of since starting CrossFit, her answer was getting her first pull-up! If you’ve ever worked toward your first pull-up, you know how big that moment is. It represents all the attempts, strength work, modifications, and days of showing up even when you weren’t quite there yet. Then one day, you pull yourself over that bar and realize just how much stronger you’ve become.
Of course, getting that first pull-up doesn’t mean Gracie is done setting goals. Right now, she’s working toward becoming a faster runner. That’s one of our favorite things about CrossFit. There’s always another opportunity to improve. You get your first pull-up, then maybe you want two. You finish the run, then you start wondering how much faster you could do it next time. There is always something to work toward and another way to surprise yourself.
We also had to find out some of Gracie’s favorites. Her favorite movement is box jump overs , and when it comes to workouts, she’ll happily take “anything without burpees.” We have a feeling she’s definitely not alone on that one.
But when we asked Gracie about her favorite memory at CrossFit 863, she didn’t choose a PR, a lift, or a specific workout. She chose the CrossFit Open. “Almost the whole gym participated, we made teams, had a little bit of friendly competition, had fun weekly challenges, and we got to cheer one another on every Friday night as we completed each Open workout.” It’s one of those experiences that really shows what CrossFit is about. Everyone may be doing their own workout, but nobody is doing it alone.
That sense of community is a big part of what has made CrossFit 863 special to Gracie. “The CrossFit 863 community feels like more than just a gym. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging, no matter where you’re starting in your fitness journey. You never feel judged. Everyone pushes you to do your best, celebrates your wins with you, holds you accountable, and is there to help you cross the finish line of any hard workout.”
And if you’re reading Gracie’s story while thinking, CrossFit looks way too intimidating for me, she has something she wants you to know. “Sometimes it can look intimidating, but CrossFit is for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE. No matter your skill level, there is a workout for you.”
That’s something we want people to understand before they ever walk through our doors. You don’t have to be able to do a pull-up before you start. You don’t have to be a fast runner. You don’t need to know how to lift a barbell, and you definitely don’t have to “get in shape first.” You simply start where you are, and we meet you there.
Outside of the gym, Gracie enjoys fishing with her husband, having game nights with friends, and taking care of all her animals. And when she’s at CrossFit 863, you can probably find her jumping over a box, working on getting a little faster on those runs, hoping there aren’t any burpees programmed, and continuing to surprise herself with what she’s capable of.
We’re so happy to have Gracie Clark as part of the CrossFit 863 community. From walking in wanting to become stronger and healthier to getting her first pull up and continuing to chase new goals, Gracie is a great example of what can happen when you simply give yourself the chance to start.
